Dallas was a juror found guilty of contempt of court for disobeying a trial judge's instructions not to search the internet. She also shared information she had found online about the defendant with other jurors.

Persue had accepted almost £18,0000 of money stolen from the account of scientist Sir Peter Hirsch ( Emeritus Professor at Oxford's department of materials ) which – in turn - was part of a larger £800,000 fraud on 50 account holders. She was working in cahoots with a “friend” and – being two months pregnant and all alone - the court believed her story that she has been ‘used’ by him as she made eight withdrawals from Barclays Bank in December 2008.

We hope Persue will pursue an illustrious career as a criminologist in a discipline where most academics have never even so much as knowingly spoken with a convicted offender.

Imprisoned for five to six years, to be followed by 10 years probation. A state police search of his home computer would later reveal hundreds of still and moving indecent images of children.

Popper was caught when he exchanged pictures of infants with an undercover police officer. He was found guilty of 40 “child pornography” possession and distribution charges.

Popper is a former dean of the Girard School of Business and International Commerce at Merrimack College in North Andover USA (until 2005).

The fatal fight broke out while Lisa – whom besotted Connelly had followed from Preston where they were a couple - was in the toilet of the Fountain Inn pub where Connelly lived and Gotheridge worked.

The US Attache office in Frankfurt, Germany provided US authorities with a lead that concerned a target at Fernandes’ residence who was allowing access to child pornography via the Internet and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing software. Kim pled guilty to child abuse for striking his two children with a baseball bat as punishment for misbehaving. The children’s mother called the authorities. The children both below the age of 12 years were treated for substantial bruising at the University of Michigan Medical emergency room.

Kim remains free on a personal bond and is allowed to visit his children within the parameters set by officials with protective services, according to court records. Oddly, no record can be found of any final sentence in this case.

In the first of several USA university student loan frauds, Moore enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC) under the name Ernest Bouvier-Moore, an alias. Using this false name and a Social Security to obtain a student loan he never obtained an undergraduate degree from USC or any other university he attended – although he claimed he had. Moore graduated from Claremont Graduate University (CGU), under one of many aliases, with a Master of Arts degree in Politics.

While teaching at USC as an adjunct professor in real estate Landreth ran an investment scam, which was in fact a Ponzi scheme. He lured students and others with bogus claims of large returns in commercial developments. In total his victims invested $1.5 million in Landreth’s purported real estate projects in Chicago and Las Vegas with promised returns of 190% within 30 to 45 days. Instead of investing the money, however, he used it, among other things to buy himself ‘stuff’ such as a Cadillac Escalade. Landreth spent the rest on business expenses for Webster Realty Investors and on personal expenses.

Several victims testified in court that the losses they incurred from the scheme have ruined them financially. At least two of Landreth’s own students said they invested $100,000 or more with Landreth, according to a court affidavit.

Guilty of voyeurism. Sentenced to a three-year community order and placed on the sex offenders' register.

While employed to lecture business studies at University College Birmingham Hwang secretly hid a digital camera in an air freshener in the shower in a house he was renting to students.

When police arrested Hwang, they searched his bedroom and found smoke alarms rigged with radio transmitters, as well as two more spy cameras and cable equipment.

Known in academic circles as Dr Paul P. Hwang, he both studied and taught at Harvard University in America. Hwang quit his teaching post.

Hwang also achieved a master's degree in business management research at Oxford University. He taught at Cambridge University while studying for his PhD. He has also lectured in business studies at Harvard and worked at Sydney University

Harris is the first person in UK to be convicted of cyberstalking by way of stream of threatening emails following the end of their two year relationship with the heiress. He was made the subject of an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting ex-girlfriend Miss Dawson and members of her family.

The order banned Harris from going near the College of Law in London where Miss Dawson was then studying and the Dawson family home in Yorkshire or Mr Dawson's global wood company in Yorkshire.

Hammond had 1,100 abusive (indecent) images of children on his computers that included 30 in the most serious 'level five' category of pornography and other images involving babies as young as two days. In total, police found 1,113 images of children aged between six months and 16 years of age - including 22 moving images - on two hard drives and a computer memory stick.

Hammond was given a mere 12-month suspended prison sentence and a two-year supervision order. He was also placed on the Sex Offender Register and fined £1,000.

Judge Gareth Hawkes-worth, who also graduated from Cambridge, told Hammond that he believed could be rehabilitated.

After the guilty verdict, Cambridge University allowed Hammond to keep his job as a senior academic Reader.

Gonzalez and his accomplices used SQL injection techniques to create malware backdoors on several corporate systems in order to launch packet sniffing (specifically, ARP Spoofing) attacks which allowed him to steal computer data from internal corporate networks. Gonzalez amassed $2.8 million, which he used to buy a Miami condo, a car, Rolex watches and a Tiffany ring for his girlfriend. Officers found he had buried $1 million cash in the backyard of his parents' home

As a youth, Gonzalez was a member of the online hacker gang the Keebler Elves. He was being paid $75,000 by the U.S Secret Service to work undercover informing on other credit card thieves before his arrest.Gonzalez and his two non-US citizen co-defendants would drive past retailers with a laptop computer, tapping into those with vulnerable wireless Internet signals. They would then install "sniffer programs" that picked off credit and debit card numbers as they moved through a retailer's computers before selling the numbers overseas

The UK's Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) called it a 'ground-breaking' prosecution as no one has ever been jailed for filming in a cinema and then distributing it on the internet. Nimley – who had recorded and uploaded many pirate movies by way of his hand held iPhone made no money at all from his crime. Nicholas Bull, his defense lawyer, asked the judge to take into account the amateur quality of unemployed Nimley’s “work”: 'The camera was unstable. It was audible my client was drinking and eating throughout at times it was tilted up to view the top of the cinema.”

Mhakayakora, Dzikamai Mussett (Nurse). Imprisoned for nine months for NHS fraud totaling £85,000. His NHS student bursary was £18,600.94 and his gross earnings at Partnerships in Care Ltd were £66,542.97 - a total of £85,143.91 defrauded.

Mhakayakor used a false Home Office letter stating he had indefinite leave to remain to obtain a place at Thames Valley University, where he completed a 3-year Diploma in Nursing/ he received a full Nurse Training Bursary from the NHS Student Grants Unit for the three years, as well as some further course expenses, totaling £18, 600.94. On completing his course he was registered by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.Mhakayakor used the same false Home Office letter when he applied to work as a qualified staff nurse in a private nursing home for learning disabled patients owned by Partnerships in Care Ltd. He was subsequently able to earn a total of over £66,000 in this job before being arrested.

In addition, The investigation revealed she had been living with her partner but had declared on her bursary application she was a single parent with no partner.

Aghedo, Regina (Nurse). Sentenced to nine months imprisonment – suspended for two years for NHS fraud of £18,580 student bursary funds. Aghedo falsely declared she had been granted refugee status, producing no evidence to support that. In the same month, she made a dishonest application to NHS Student Bursaries to fund her living expenses while studying at Thames Valley University.

Aghedo’s application for asylum had in fact been refused, and her appeal against that decision was also dismissed. She had then made an application for indefinite leave to remain in the UK as the spouse of a person who was present and settled in the UK, but this application was refused.

University of Bedfordshire

Chigwada, Simbarashe (Undergraduate Student Nurse). Sentenced to nine months imprisonment – suspended for 18 months. Guilty of fraud. Chigwada used false Zimbabwean passport containing false Home Office stamps, and used a copy of a false Home Office letter stating he had indefinite leave to remain in the UK. He also pleaded guilty to one offence of Theft, under the Theft Act 1968, of £18,025.20 from the NHS Student Bursaries Unit. Defrauded the NHS of a total of £42,000. He was handed an 18 month supervision order, sentenced to 150 hours of unpaid community work and was fined £250 (or 14 days’ imprisonment in default). Unlike so many others guilty of the same offences, he was not actually imprisoned!
